When did you first realize that you wanted to get into the music and entertainment business?
I really decided that I wanted to play music for a living when I started my first band with my brother when I was 10.

Who would you consider to be your biggest influences in music?
Being that I play a lot of rock, folk and pop gigs my biggest influences may not be that obvious, I grew up studying jazz as my primary focus and I’ve read a ton of biographies on the greats from the 40s, 50s and 60s. I’m also a big fan of the records that were made at Stax, Motown and by The Wrecking Crew in the 60s, those were groups of fantastic musicians who worked in the studios everyday and were responsible for some of the greatest music ever made.

Where was your first public performance and who was it with?
My first public performance would have been a hospital benefit at Centre School when I was 10 and it was with the band my brother and I started, at the time I think we were called Smash which we later changed to Downfall.

So far, what moment would you consider to be one of your career highlights in the music industry?
People that I grew up with me know that when I was a kid I was obsessed with Bonnie Raitt’s Luck Of The Draw album and I still listen to it on a regular basis so when I got a call from Catahoula Brown to book me to play with him at the Dutch Mason Blues Festival where we’d be on the bill with Bonnie Raitt, I remember thinking wow things are really going my way! I’ve had a number of cases in the last while where I’ve gotten to play with and meet a number of my childhood idols so I feel pretty lucky.

You’ve worked with so many great musicians, bands and projects, is there any artists out there that you would really love to work with in the future that you haven’t worked with yet?
I’m a big Daniel Lanois fan, I love the way he blends styles and his song writing so that would be pretty cool.

What do you consider to be your favorite East Coast live music venue?
The Lunenburg Opera House holds a special place in my heart, it’s one of the vibiest places ever and I got my start doing record session work when Red Fish audio was upstairs.

If you were to pick one, what would your favorite recording project be?
I think I’d have to say the last Air Traffic Control Record “Tear The House Down”. We did it at my studio, we had just gotten a ton of new gear that had been on my wish list for a while, there was no deadline and I was working with my best friends and family, it doesn’t get much better than that!

Being on tour you get to see a lot of different places and people, do you have any funny or strange tour stories that you could share?
I remember being on tour with a country band and we had played a show in Quebec City, the crowd was great, we were having a blast with them, they even locked the doors of the club and had a sing along/jam with us late into the night and kept feeding everyone drinks. The bass player and I were getting pretty tired and we had a lengthy drive the next day so we tried to encourage the other guys to head back to where we were staying to get some sleep but they passed and said don’t worry we’ll just get a cab once they were ready. So the bass player and I woke up the next morning, the guys weren’t there and we had to get on the road pretty soon to hit the next town. The leader had a cell phone so we tracked him down and met up shortly after but the guitarist had no cell and the leader said he was invited to an even later jam session somewhere else and the guy didn’t have the address for where we were or our cell numbers, so we thought now we’re screwed! There was a diner down the street and the three of us were starving and stressed out so we thought maybe if we go get something to eat an idea will come to us. So we just finished eating and I could see in the distance a guy stumbling around in the middle of the street drunk as hell smoking a cigarette and then I realized…………. that’s our guitarist! So we threw him in the van and made the next show just in time.
